Ricoh has announced the HD PENTAX-DA★ 16-50mm f/2.8 ED PLM AW, price tag $1,400, for use with Pentax K-mount APS-C DSLR cameras.

The new HD PENTAX-DA★ 16-50mm f/2.8 ED PLM AW is the latest in Ricoh’s high-performance star series optics, which promises fast, precise AF operation.

New to the HD PENTAX-DA★ 16-50mm f/2.8 ED PLM AW is a PLM, or Advanced Pulse Motor, which powers the autofocus and also promises better control when focusing manually. The new Pentax lens also incorporates a quick-shift system that switches to manual focus when you turn the focus ring after half-pressing the shutter button.

The HD PENTAX-DA★ 16-50mm f/2.8 ED PLM AW is comprised of 16 elements in 10 groups, including one ED element, one anomalous dispersion optical element and two ED aspherical elements.

Also on board is Ricoh’s HD coating to prevent ghosting and flare. It weighs 712g and is also weather resistant and dustproof.

Other features include a maximum magnification of 0.24x and a minimum focusing distance of just 0.3m.

The HD PENTAX-DA★ 16-50mm f/2.8 ED PLM AW has a release date set for August.
