Our Verdict

The demands placed on your memory card by the latest Canon EOS R, Nikon Z or Sony A cameras are immense, so if you’re looking for a new card, you’ll need one with some serious ability to keep up. The Lexar Professional 2000x SDHC/SDXC UHS-II Card GOLD Series 128GB should be just the ticket, with read and write speeds of up to 300MB/s and 260MB/s.
The card is also durable, reinforcing its reliability, with a robust build quality that can withstand harsh conditions and is supported by a limited lifetime warranty. While this card may be pricier than other options on the market, its performance and the peace of mind it gives you makes it a worthwhile investment.

What is Lexar Professional 2000x SDHC/SDXC UHS-II Card Gold Series 128GB?

The Lexar Professional 2000x SDHC/SDXC UHS-II Card GOLD Series 128GB is a high-performance memory card designed for professional photographers and videographers and comes with a price to match. The Lexar brand is trusted and has long been a favourite choice for pros; that also means it comes with a premium price tag, although thankfully, it’s still more affordable than some other UHS-II cards out there.

The version I’m looking at in this review is the 128GB capacity option, but it’s also available in 32, 64 and 256GB versions, with read speeds of up to 300MB/s and write speeds of up to 260MB/s. These quoted transfer speeds far outstrip most other SD cards on the market, making it ideal for capturing high-resolution images 4K and some 8K video. The card is built meeting the V90 video speed class, which can handle sustained video recording rates of up to 90MB/s.

Build and Handling

The Lexar Professional 2000x SD 128GB card feels robust, with a solid build that inspires confidence in its reliability. The gold design of the label gives it a sleek and attractive look, although that has no bearing on how well the card actually works.

Being from Lexar, the card feels well-made with a high-quality finish. The usual Lexar guarantees reinforce that quality promise that the card is designed to withstand heavy use and should make a reliable choice for professional photographers and videographers.

Features

The Lexar Professional 2000x SDHC/SDXC UHS-II Card GOLD Series has several features that set it apart. Firstly its UHS-II technology provides read transfer speeds of up to 300MB/s, making it a great choice for the latest cameras that shoot 4 and 8K video in a variety of high-quality recording formats as well as shooting high-resolution images such as the Canon EOS R5.

The card supports the latest high-speed cameras and is backwards compatible with UHS-I devices, although don’t expect the card to speed up older bodies.

Finally, this model has a large capacity of 128GB, although the range does go all the way up to 256GB and down to 32GB, I looked at the 64GB version last year and was impressed, allowing users to store large amounts of data without frequently swapping cards. The card also includes the Image Rescue software, which helps recover lost or deleted files.

Performance

When it comes to performance, the Lexar Professional 2000x SD card truly shines. Lexar quote that the card has impressive read and write speeds of up to 300MB/s and 260MB/s, respectively, in test conditions, making it one of the fastest SD cards on the market.

In our testing, we used the card to record video in the Canon EOS R5 C and Sony A7 III. In both cameras, at all settings where the UHS-II speed of the SD card could be utilised, the card’s speed was more than enough to keep up with the data transfer rate. Once the real-world video test was complete and the card had proved itself throughout several shoots, it was time to run the test through the AJA System test lite; this produced impressive results with read speeds of 199MB/s and wrote of 181MB/s.

In addition to video, we also tested the card’s performance with sequential shooting on the Canon EOS R5 C in high-speed continuous shooting mode. Here the camera could shoot well in excess of a combined 400 RAW and JPEG images before the camera took a breath to catch up. It then took nine seconds to clear the buffer before the camera was back ready for action. This performance from the card and camera is crucial for photographers who must capture fast-paced action or rapidly changing scenes. Although with almost 9GB of data captured in just a few seconds shooting at this rate will quickly become expensive in both time and money.

The Lexar Professional 2000x 128GB SD card proved to be an excellent choice for anyone who needs a fast, reliable SD card for demanding photography or video work. Its performance is excellent and it can easily handle the most challenging tasks.

Verdict

The Lexar Professional 2000x SDHC/SDXC UHS-II Card GOLD Series delivers transfer speeds, making it an ideal choice whether you’re a professional or an enthusiast who needs a card that can keep up with the performance of your camera.

The card’s UHS-II and V90 class ensure that it will perform well whether you use it for capturing video or photography, as it achieves impressive transfer speeds for still and video and sequential shooting.

However, the card comes with a hefty price tag of £114, which may be a deal-breaker for some users and the card’s performance may be beyond your camera’s needs. Really, if speed and reliability are paramount and budget is not a concern, then the Lexar Professional 2000x SDHC/SDXC UHS-II Card GOLD Series is worth the investment.
