Xiaomi has launched the Xiaomi 18 Pro and Xiaomi 18 Pro Max in China and confirmed that both phones will be released internationally. The pair share the same Leica-branded triple camera system, headlined by two 200MP sensors, which makes them two of the most interesting camera phones of the season for photographers.

The global launch was confirmed at Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Summit, as reported by Notebookcheck, and Xiaomi Global has started teasing the phones on social media.

Leica camera system

Both models use a 200MP main camera built around Xiaomi’s Light Hunter 960 sensor, a Type 1/1.28-inch chip paired with an f/1.67 lens and optical stabilisation that Xiaomi rates at seven stops. Alongside it is a second 200MP camera, this time a 3.2x telephoto with a Type 1/1.56-inch sensor and f/2.4 lens, plus a 50MP ultra-wide with a 102° field of view.

All three cameras carry Leica-branded optics and Leica colour profiles, and Xiaomi is also promoting an AI-driven processing feature it calls Legendary Moment. Having the same camera hardware on both sizes is welcome, as it means photographers don’t have to buy the biggest phone to get the best camera.

Two sizes

The Xiaomi 18 Pro has a 6.4-inch screen and a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 chip, while the 18 Pro Max has a 6.9-inch screen and the faster Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Extreme. The Pro series also has a rear display that can show AI-generated app cards.

Global buyers will get smaller batteries than in China. The international 18 Pro drops from 7,000mAh to 6,000mAh and the 18 Pro Max from 8,500mAh to 7,050mAh, according to Notebookcheck, with charging speeds largely unchanged.

In China, the Xiaomi 18 Pro starts at CNY 5,999 and the Xiaomi 18 Pro Max at CNY 6,999. Xiaomi has yet to announce UK pricing or a global release date.
