Expanded backpack range targets wildlife photographers with longer telephoto setups.
Vanguard has updated its Alta Sky backpack line with a clear message for wildlife and long-lens photographers: the range now stretches all the way up to carrying a 1200mm f/8 lens. In practical terms, that means the series is being positioned as a specialist solution for photographers who need to move big telephoto setups over longer distances without sacrificing protection, comfort or access in the field.
According to Vanguard, the Alta Sky series has become a go-to option for carrying long lenses thanks to four core priorities: support for large telephoto optics plus extra lenses, easy access, strong protection and a harness system designed for comfort on extended hikes. The company says all models include a long internal compartment with solid dividers and an extra-wide top opening, intended to make packing and retrieving a camera-and-lens combination more straightforward when time matters in the field. That sort of access is especially important for bird, wildlife and sports photographers who cannot afford to wrestle with their bag while a fleeting moment disappears.
Protection is another major part of the pitch. Vanguard says the bags use a 1000D polyester exterior alongside generous internal padding to shield expensive equipment. That is paired with a load-bearing harness system aimed at making larger kits more manageable over tough terrain. The combination suggests a product family designed not for casual carry, but for photographers trekking significant distances with sizeable glass.
The updated range now includes six options. At the top end, the new Alta Sky 69 is the standout addition, offering space for a camera and lens up to 65cm long and up to 20cm deep, while also accommodating as many as eight additional lenses and a 17-inch laptop. Elsewhere, the new Alta Sky 52 expands the mid-range with IATA hand-luggage compatibility, room for a camera and lens up to 48cm long, capacity for five additional lenses and space for a 16-inch laptop. Existing models remain in place to cover different kit sizes and travel needs, from the more compact Alta Sky 42 through to larger long-lens options such as the Alta Sky 68.
Vanguard is also adding a promotional incentive, with buyers who purchase from an authorised dealer before 30 June 2026 able to claim a free Alta Pouch. For photographers investing in ever-larger telephoto lenses, the Alta Sky update looks like a practical attempt to match the increasing size and ambition of modern wildlife kits.
