Thypoch is preparing to launch its first autofocus lens for Fujifilm X-mount, and the latest reports suggest we won’t have long to wait. Fuji Rumors says the AF 23mm f/1.4 will be announced in late October, with shipping following in November.
The lens was first shown earlier this month, with images and specifications published by French site Phototrend and picked up by Fuji Rumors. It carries Thypoch’s Sculptor branding.
A classic focal length with a click
On an APS-C Fujifilm body the 23mm gives the equivalent of 34.5mm, a classic street and everyday focal length. The early images showed a silver aperture ring with a notch, but a new image sent to Fuji Rumors by a tipster shows the production version in all black.
The f/1.4 maximum aperture puts it in direct competition with Fujifilm’s own XF 23mm f/1.4 R LM WR and Viltrox’s AF 23mm f/1.4, so price will be important. Thypoch has built a strong reputation for manual-focus lenses with a quality feel, such as the Ksana 35mm f/2 ASPH, and an autofocus range for Fujifilm X would be a significant step for the brand.
This is still an unofficial report, so treat the timing as provisional until Thypoch confirms it. We’ll bring you full details when the lens is officially announced.
