Unconfirmed. Sony has not announced any delay. The report below comes from Canon Rumors, citing two sources, and Sony has made no public statement.
If you have an FX5 on pre-order, this one matters. Canon Rumors reports, citing two separate sources, that Sony’s new Cinema Line camera — originally scheduled to begin shipping on 18 August 2026 — has been delayed until at least early September. The reason given is a quality control issue.
We would treat that with appropriate caution. It is a rumour-site report rather than a statement from Sony, and the fact that it has surfaced via a Canon-focused site rather than the Sony rumour channels is worth noting, even though such reports do cross over regularly. Two independent sources is more than a single whisper, but it is not confirmation.
That said, the shape of it is plausible. The FX5 was announced on 22 July with pre-orders opening the same day and shipping stated for August, and it is a substantial technical step for the FX series — the first with 3:2 Open Gate capture, internal X-OCN RAW recording, and a newly developed fully-stacked sensor. New sensors and new recording formats are exactly the areas where a quality issue would surface late.
UK buyers should note that Sony UK’s own direct orders were already listed as shipping from 28 August, slightly behind the international date, while Wex had indicated first stock in mid-August. If the reported slip is accurate, both of those move.
Our advice is to sit tight rather than cancel. A delay for quality control is a great deal better than a camera that ships with a problem, and retailers taking pre-orders without payment until dispatch — as Wex does — mean there is little cost to waiting. We will update this story if Sony confirms anything officially.
