Peak Design’s Field Bracket has finished its crowdfunding run and is now on general sale, having raised $678,868 — comfortably the company’s most successful launch category in some time. It was flagged by Photo Rumors, and details are on the Peak Design website.
What it does
The Field Bracket is Peak Design’s answer to a long-standing annoyance: the traditional L-bracket is a permanent, one-shape fixture that you either tolerate or take off entirely. This one reconfigures without tools.
In a few seconds you can add or remove the upright for vertical shooting, swap in accessories such as a hand strap or cheese plate, or strip it back to a low-profile baseplate. Model-specific baseplates contour to individual camera bodies and, usefully, avoid blocking ports when the camera is tripod-mounted.
The neatest detail remains the optional Find My-compatible tracking tag, concealed within the Arca profile. It is a genuinely clever piece of theft deterrence built into hardware you were fitting anyway — and it does not add bulk, because the space was already there.
Why the funding total is worth noting
Nearly $680,000 for an L-bracket is a considerable sum, and it says something about where photographers currently feel underserved. Camera bodies and lenses attract the attention, but the accessories that determine how you actually work with them — how quickly you switch to vertical, whether your ports are blocked, whether you can find your camera if it walks — have seen far less genuine innovation.
It is Peak Design’s sixteenth crowdfunding campaign, and the company’s launch-on-Kickstarter-then-retail approach is now thoroughly established. Worth remembering that backers effectively pre-ordered at a discount; buying now means paying full price, but with the advantage that the product exists and is shipping.

Whether modular flexibility justifies the added complexity over a simple, rock-solid fixed L-bracket is the question we would want to settle with one in hand. But as one of the more thoughtful takes on a format that has barely changed in decades, it has clearly found its audience.
