If you have images sitting in NIKON IMAGE SPACE, this one needs your attention rather than your interest. Nikon is shutting the service down, and there is a hard deadline after which anything you have not retrieved is gone permanently.
The dates that matter
From 14 October 2026, the image storage and sharing features move to Nikon Imaging Cloud. NIKON IMAGE SPACE itself closes the following day, 15 October 2026 at 9:00am Japan time — which is 1:00am UK time, so effectively the night before for readers here.
After that, every feature except bulk download stops working. You then have a six-month window, from 15 October 2026 until 15 April 2027 at 1:00pm Japan time, to pull your files out. And then, in Nikon’s own words, all data will be permanently deleted.
There is an important restriction in that download window worth understanding now rather than in April: only bulk download will be available. You will not be able to select individual albums or specific images. If you have a decade of shoots organised into carefully labelled albums, you are taking the lot in one go and sorting it out afterwards on your own drive.
Our advice: do it now, not in April
Nikon’s guidance is to download your saved images at your earliest convenience, and we would put it more strongly than that. Retrieving them before 15 October means you can still use the normal interface, choose individual albums and keep your existing organisation intact. Wait until after, and you are stuck with the bulk export.
There is a practical reason too. Services in their final months tend to get slow as everyone downloads at once, and a six-month window sounds generous right up until you remember it in March. The storage allowance was 5GB, so for most people this is not an enormous transfer — an hour’s work rather than a weekend’s.
What replaces it
Nikon Imaging Cloud takes over, and Nikon is inviting existing users to sign up. It is worth noting the two services are not straightforwardly equivalent — Imaging Cloud is built around firmware updates, image recipes and camera connectivity as much as storage — so it is worth checking it does what you actually used IMAGE SPACE for before assuming your workflow transfers.
Cloud services closing is hardly a new story, but it is a useful reminder: anything you care about should exist somewhere you control, not solely on a manufacturer’s server. A free 5GB allowance is a convenience, not a backup.
