US accessory maker Mutiny has released an L-bracket set for the Hasselblad XPan and XPan II and their Fujifilm-badged twins, the TX-1 and TX-2. As first reported by PetaPixel, its main job is to fix one of the panoramic camera’s long-standing quirks: a tripod socket that sits well off to one side of the body.

For anyone shooting panoramas on a tripod, an off-centre mount makes levelling and stitching more awkward than it needs to be. Mutiny’s XPAN 1/2 & FUJI TX-1/2 L-Bracket Set adds two 1/4in-20 tripod holes centred on the camera.

Features

The set can be used as a baseplate on its own or with a removable L-bracket for vertical shooting. Both the base and side take Arca-Swiss style clamps, and there are centre frame line markings on the baseplate and bracket to help with alignment.

Mutiny has also built in a QD socket for a quick-release strap, a strap tether point on the L-bracket, and removable safety stop screws for both configurations. There’s even a chamber for an Apple AirTag, secured with a four-screw Torx cap, so a valuable camera can be tracked. The camera’s serial number remains visible when the AirTag cap isn’t fitted.

PetaPixel notes that the bracket doesn’t block the battery compartment, and that the film door switch can still be reached through the open side.

Our take

The XPan has been out of production for many years, but it remains one of the most sought-after film cameras around, and prices reflect that. An accessory that solves a real handling issue and helps protect an expensive camera will appeal to plenty of owners.
