Leica has announced the arrival of the Leica M EV1, the brand’s first M-series camera to feature an integrated electronic viewfinder.
Introduced in response to customer demand, the 5.76-megapixel EVF sits at the heart of the new model, providing a direct preview of both field of view and plane of focus. Real-time exposure simulation lets photographers see the effects of under- or over-exposure before shooting, while a built-in dioptre adjustment wheel (–4 to +2) allows users to fine-tune the viewfinder to their eyesight. Focus precision has also been refined with a set of assistive tools familiar to Leica fans, including focus peaking to highlight the plane of focus, magnification zooms engaged via the front lever or a function button, and an eye sensor that automatically switches between the viewfinder and touch display, while exposure data such as ISO, shutter speed and EV can also be shown discreetly around the frame.
Inside, the camera employs Leica’s full-frame BSI-CMOS sensor with Triple Resolution Technology, delivering DNG or JPEG output at 60, 36 or 18 megapixels, and is paired with the Maestro III processor, which promises rapid image handling and excellent low-noise performance. Connectivity has been streamlined, with Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and USB-C enabling fast transfer to the Leica FOTOS app, plus images can be saved to the 64 GB internal memory or an SD card. In keeping with Leica’s recent focus on digital integrity, the M EV1 also incorporates Content Credentials from the Content Authenticity Initiative, embedding a secure digital signature that verifies image origin and any subsequent edits.
Carrying an RRP of £6,840 / €7,950 / $8,995, the M EV1, which features a diamond-pattern leatherette covering, will be available from 23 October 2025 via Leica Stores, the Leica Online Store and authorised dealers, with an additional hand grip, featuring matching leatherette covering, offered separately for £340 / €395 / $460.
