Both Leica photographers and filmmakers can expect a boost in performance and usability following the release of firmware version 4.0.0 for the company’s SL System and Q3 family cameras.

The update is said to deliver noticeably faster and more accurate hybrid autofocus to the Leica SL3 and SL3 S, with improved detection of people and animals, alongside overall system speed enhancements designed to create a more responsive shooting experience. Elsewhere, a new Multishot mode on the SL3 has been incorporated, which will enable the capture of ultra high resolution images of up to 240 megapixels. The update also facilitates a direct cloud connection to Adobe Frame.io on the SL3 and SL3 S, allowing images and video to be uploaded and shared as part of a streamlined workflow.

Cameras in the Leica Q3 family receiving firmware 4.0.0 are also set to benefit from improved autofocus and a redesigned user interface inspired by the SL3, bringing new icons, an improved menu structure, faster navigation and enhanced touch performance, which Leica says will result in a more intuitive and personalised shooting experience across both stills and video.
