Harman Technology, the company behind Ilford and Kentmere films and its own Harman Phoenix colour stock, has released a small range of Harman Photo-branded accessories aimed squarely at film photographers. There are four items in all: a 35mm film case, a 120 film case, a keychain lens cloth and an A6 notebook.
None of these are going to change the way you shoot, but they’re the kind of practical bits of kit that anyone who carries film around will appreciate, and they’re priced sensibly.
Film cases for 35mm and 120
The Harman Film Case 35mm holds up to five rolls, either loose or in their plastic canisters, and is finished in Harman Photo’s dark red with a snap-shut lid. It’s designed to keep film protected from dust, scratches and the knocks of everyday use, and to keep exposed and unexposed rolls organised in the bag.
The Harman Film Case 120 does the same job for medium format, again holding five rolls, loose or in their packaging, this time in a dark teal finish.
Lens cloth and notebook
The keychain soft cloth is a microfibre cleaning cloth for cameras and lenses that clips onto a camera bag, so it’s always to hand. Finally, the Harman Photo A6 notebook comes in dark red with a pocket inside the rear cover.
The notebook might be the most useful of the lot. Keeping notes on exposure, film, developer and development times is one of the first habits we encourage when teaching film and darkroom photography, as it’s the only way to work out what went right, or wrong, when the negatives come out of the tank. A notebook small enough to live in your camera bag makes that habit much easier to keep.
