Godox has launched the Lux Junior II, a comprehensive redesign of its retro-styled compact flash that sets out to fix every complaint levelled at the original. Where the first Lux Junior was a charming but basic manual flash, the sequel adds the four things reviewers most wanted — bounce capability, TTL metering, a fast recycle time and wireless support — while keeping the vintage looks. The headline change is a dual-axis rotating design. The flash body rotates 180 degrees while the head tilts from 0 to 90 degrees with multiple locking positions, so you can bounce light off a ceiling or wall whether you’re shooting in landscape or portrait orientation — something even Godox’s pricier Lux Master, with its single-axis tilt, can’t fully manage. For soft, flattering fill, that flexibility is genuinely useful.
Underneath the retro shell there’s now a proper modern feature set: TTL automatic metering (plus Manual, Multi and Auto modes), high-speed sync to 1/8000s, front and rear curtain sync, and a built-in 2.4GHz receiver for Godox’s X wireless system so the flash can be fired off-camera. A USB-C rechargeable battery cuts the recycle time from around five seconds to 1.5, and delivers up to 400 full-power flashes. A hybrid hot shoe makes the standard version compatible with Canon, Nikon, Fujifilm, OM System and Panasonic, while a dedicated Lux Junior II S covers Sony.
Crucially for a good chunk of our readers, it stays film-friendly: a retained AUTO mode plus a 2.5mm sync port and PC-sync compatibility mean it works happily on analogue bodies, and Godox bundles magnetic colour accessories (a full and half orange filter, plus a diffuser).
