Portable ultra-short throw projector turns tight spaces into home cinema.

Acer has launched the PD1520Us in the UK, pitching it as a portable cinema projector designed for people who want a genuinely large image without giving over half the room to projection distance. The key selling point is its ultra-short throw design, which allows the projector to sit only centimetres from a wall or screen while still producing images up to 100 inches. That immediately makes it more practical for smaller homes, bedrooms, flats and multi-use living spaces where a conventional long-throw projector simply would not fit.

Acer is also leaning hard into convenience. The PD1520Us uses a vertical design that is intended to work straight out of the box, avoiding the hassle and expense of ceiling mounting or more involved installations. At 740g, it is light enough to move from room to room or take to another location for a film night, which gives it a flexibility that many home projectors lack. The company says it can project a 100-inch image from just a few inches away, while also supporting a 23-inch tabletop projection mode that could suit games, casual presentations or more interactive use.

On the specification front, Acer says the projector supports Full HD 1080p resolution with 4K support, alongside built-in Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and screen mirroring for iOS and Android devices. The emphasis is clearly on easy streaming and quick setup rather than specialist AV complexity. Auto Focus and Auto 2D Keystone Correction are included to help square and sharpen the image as soon as the projector is placed, while the LED light source promises near-instant power-up and shut-down in around one second.

There is also a sustainability angle. Acer quotes a 30,000-hour lifespan for the LED light source, which should mean years of regular viewing without the replacement lamp costs associated with older projector designs. The unit is also mercury-free, a point Acer highlights as part of its more modern, environmentally conscious pitch. In short, the PD1520Us looks aimed at buyers who want a more flexible alternative to a large television: a projector that can disappear when not in use, yet still deliver a sizeable picture when called into action.
