The Photo North Festival 2024 is set to return for its sixth event, transforming Leeds into a hub of photographic brilliance from 11–13 April. Taking place at the Carriageworks Theatre, this year’s festival continues its tradition of blending powerful visual narratives with vibrant community engagement.

Renowned photographers and rising stars alike will showcase their work in exhibitions that explore a diverse range of themes. Highlights include Maria Falconer and Paul Hill’s “How Do You Dance in a War Zone?”, capturing Ukrainian dancers’ resilience amid conflict, and Simon Hill’s “The North Revisited,” which revisits the North of England through the lens of John Bulmer’s iconic documentary photography.

Other must-see exhibitions include Paul Berriff’s “1960s Rock Legends”, Jillian Edelstein’s “Young Men, Worst Fears”, and Sarah Oglesby’s bold feminist project “Raging!”. Adding to the global scope are Marc Wilson and Anna Nekrasova-Wilson’s “The Land is Yellow, the Sky is Blue”, chronicling life in a Ukrainian village, and Michael Ormerod’s exploration of American life in “States of America.”

The festival promises a dynamic experience with book signings, industry panels, portfolio reviews, and networking opportunities, alongside screenings and culinary delights. Co-founders Peter Dench and Sharon Price emphasise the festival’s mission to inspire, challenge, and celebrate photography as a vital storytelling medium.
