Pentax is another of the big names in photography but it has struggled to carry its success with film cameras into the digital era. In July 2011 it was announced that Pentax had been bought from Hoya by Ricoh. Pentax has a small range of DLSRs with some unique features such as the ability to tracks stars across the sky so they are recorded as dots rather than streaks. The range includes APS-C, full-frame and medium format models and most are designed with outdoor types in mind, with weatherproof seals to keep out rain. The company has also dabbled with mirrorless cameras but failed to gain any traction in the competitive marketplace.
