Panasonic has introduced a refreshed version of its hybrid full-frame mirrorless camera, the LUMIX S5D. Officially unveiled on 8th October 2024, the LUMIX S5D continues the legacy of its predecessor while integrating several cutting-edge features that aim to meet the needs of both videographers and photographers. This includes DJI LiDAR AF compatibility, exceptional ISO performance, and comprehensive video recording features designed for cinema-quality production.
A major highlight of the LUMIX S5D is its new autofocus system, which pairs with the DJI LiDAR Range Finder for precise distance measurement. This allows the camera to achieve rapid autofocus speeds without the need for a focus motor, simplifying the shooting process for users. With 43,200 ranging points within a 14-metre range, the autofocus system performs efficiently even in low-light conditions, making it a powerful tool for professionals.
The camera is also equipped with a 24.2-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor, delivering sharp, high-resolution images with excellent dynamic range and low-light performance. Thanks to its Dual Native ISO technology, the LUMIX S5D offers a maximum ISO of 51,200, minimising noise even at high sensitivity settings. This makes it an ideal option for creators working in challenging lighting environments.
In terms of video capabilities, the S5D delivers stunning 4K 60p/50p 4:2:0 10-bit and 4K 30p/25p 4:2:2 10-bit internal recording. It also supports RAW video output through HDMI to the ATOMOS NINJA V, offering resolutions up to 5.9K. Additionally, the camera brings a wealth of recording assist functions, including the Vector Scope Display and Master Pedestal Adjustment, which further enhance creative flexibility.
