Panasonic has unveiled a pivotal firmware update for its renowned full-frame mirrorless cameras, the LUMIX S5II and S5IIX, set to significantly refine the shooting and sharing experience. The Firmware V3.0 for S5II and V2.0 for S5IIX, announced today, 10th April 2024, are designed to streamline production and post-production workflows.

Central to this update is the integration with Adobe’s Frame.io. This feature enables seamless, automated uploading, backing up, and sharing of images and videos through cloud connectivity. The process facilitates real-time, remote collaboration and feedback during the shoot.

Another notable enhancement is the proxy video recording feature. It allows the recording of a low bit-rate proxy file alongside the original video, simplifying the data transfer and editing phases.

The update also focuses on improving basic performance metrics. It introduces an advanced real-time auto-focus system capable of recognizing people, animals, and even vehicles like cars and motorcycles. The addition of a High mode to the E-Stabilization (Video) function and a new perspective distortion correction feature further enhance the camera and help provide distortion-free footage, particularly when shooting with wide-angle lenses.

Creative possibilities are expanded with the SH pre-burst shooting function, allowing for retrospective burst shooting from the moment the shutter button is half-pressed, capturing moments even before the full press.

This firmware will be available for free download from the LUMIX Global Customer Support website starting 22nd April 2024,
