Panasonic has released a series of firmware updates for its LUMIX S9, S5II, S5IIX, and G9II cameras, effective from 9th October 2024. These updates provide users with enhanced functionality and a more seamless shooting experience, solidifying Panasonic’s commitment to continuous improvement for photographers and filmmakers.
The flagship update, Firmware Version 1.1 for the full-frame mirrorless LUMIX S9, introduces new features such as unlimited recording time, multiple frame marker displays, and improved subject detection, with additional options to detect specific vehicles like airplanes, trains, and motorcycles. This update expands the versatility of the S9, particularly for content creators working with different aspect ratios and complex compositions.
Firmware updates for the LUMIX S5II (v3.1) and S5IIX (v2.1) also bring noteworthy improvements. These cameras now support LEICA Monochrome as a Photo Style, allowing users to shoot dynamic black-and-white images directly in-camera. Additional updates include compatibility with the Panasonic LUMIX Lab smartphone app, integration with the latest XLR microphone adapter (DMW-XLR2), and a new 5GHz Wi-Fi option for faster wireless connectivity.
For Micro Four Thirds users, the LUMIX G9II Firmware Version 2.2 introduces similar updates, improving operational stability and app support, while also enabling in-camera real-time LUT (Look Up Table) assignment for more creative colour grading during shoots.
