OM System has announced a new super telephoto zoom lens, the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 150-600mm F5.0-6.3 IS, price tag £2,499.99 / €2,699.00 / $2,699.99, with a release date for late February 2024.

Designed for the Micro Four Thirds System, this super telephoto zoom lens offers a wide focal range, extending from a 300mm to a 1200mm equivalent focal length. This range can be further expanded to a 2400mm equivalent when paired with the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 2x Teleconverter MC-20.

In terms of stabilisation, the lens integrates well with the new OM-1 Mark II camera, also announced today, providing up to 7 steps of image stabilisation through 5-axis sync IS. Even without this synchronisation, the lens independently offers up to 6 shutter speed steps of image stabilisation, promising sharp images even at maximum zoom without the necessity of a tripod.

Designed for durability and ease of use in challenging conditions, the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 150-600mm F5.0-6.3 IS lens is equipped with IPX1 rated splash and dust-proof capabilities. It also boasts a fluorine coating for an extra layer of protection.

Weighing approximately 4.55lbs, the M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 150-600mm F5.0-6.3 IS is compact and lightweight for a super-telephoto, which is advantageous for photographers who need to move quickly and unobtrusively.

Other key features include up to 0.7x image magnification for tele-macro photography, further enhancing its versatility.

Looks lovely but at over 2kg that doesn’t meet the requirements of a M43 system! I may as well go back to lugging an APS-C system around again
