Olympus will shut down its camera business in South Korea as soon as next month, the company has announced.
Various news agencies have reported that Olympus plans to exit the imaging business in South Korea due to declining sales. Instead, the company will focus its efforts on optical equipment for the medical and scientific communities.
Olympus has been dogged by rumours over the past year that it plans to shut its camera business, which it has strongly denied. And it’s worth reiterating that this closure is solely to its Korean branch.
Olympus Korea confirmed in a statement on its website that it will cease its imaging business as of 30 June 2020. What’s more, it will be closing its brick-and-mortar store along with its line store.
