Virtual production just got a major upgrade—and it fits in your pocket. Emmy-winning developer Lightcraft Technology has announced a sweeping update to its powerful iPhone-based virtual production platform, Jetset. Already embraced by studios and solo creators alike, the latest version introduces a dozen new features designed to bring high-end virtual production to every corner of the filmmaking process.

At the heart of the update is the ability to record and composite live performances against virtual environments directly on an iPhone. The headline addition is full support for live cinematic compositing, allowing filmmakers to see real-time results, complete with 3D environments and tracked camera movement, before leaving the set. This marks a significant leap forward, particularly for smaller teams and creators working outside of traditional stages.

Another highlight is Jetset’s newly added Gaussian Splats support, a breakthrough technique that enables near-photorealistic rendering of 3D environments using images, video or LiDAR scans. Combined with Jetset’s existing suite of tools—including real-time tracking, scanning, and compositing—it makes possible a fully virtual production pipeline from pre to post.

Professional studios will appreciate the new Aximmetry integration, which connects Jetset to powerful Unreal Engine workflows, common in high-end broadcasts and LED wall productions. Meanwhile, the new “Superdailies” feature packages live-action takes with composited 3D backgrounds, camera metadata and depth maps, so that editors can begin working immediately—without needing to reprocess footage or sync external tools.

Other additions include Tentacle Sync timecode support, 3D garbage matte controls, a library of over 200 virtual camera presets, remote scene triggering, and even touch-friendly object locators for moving 3D elements during shoots.

Built on the same technology as Lightcraft’s award-winning Previzion system, Jetset remains committed to simplicity and accessibility. It runs on iPhones and iPads, and works as either a standalone virtual camera or in tandem with mirrorless and cinema cameras like the Canon R5, Sony FX3 or ARRI Alexa.

“People just accept that productions have to be slow and heavy when they really don’t,” said Eliot Mack, founder and CEO of Lightcraft. “With Jetset, we’re making virtual production 20 times cheaper with near-photorealistic quality. Now, anyone can make films and shows their way, with less friction and more fun.”
