Leica Camera AG has unveiled the Leica D-Lux 8, a new premium compact camera that reflects the brand’s iconic design and quality.
The Leica D-Lux 8 is designed for both amateur and professional photographers looking for a compact-style camera with the handling and image quality of something more. The camera is equipped with a powerful 4/3” CMOS sensor boasting 21 MP (17 MP effective), which will help to ensure high-quality images, and that larger sensor will enable you to capture shots even in challenging lighting conditions. Fronting the camera is an impressive Leica DC Vario-Summilux 10.9-34 f/1.7-2.8 4 ASPH. zoom lens that provides a versatile 35mm equivalent focal length of 24-75mm and an ideal focal range for everyday use and travel, making it suitable for a wide range of photographic scenarios from landscapes to portraits.
As we’ve seen from previous D-Lux cameras, the body features intuitive controls and button layout, ensuring that you’ll be able to navigate all settings and options with absolute ease. Additionally, the high-resolution touchscreen and new 2.4-megapixel OLED viewfinder with Live View function all help to enhance the user experience.
In terms of functionality, the cameras offer both manual and fully automatic modes, so if you want to get creative, then you can alternatively switch to manual, and the camera will handle the exposure for you. Despite being a compact camera, it still supports DNG and JPEG file formats, which will give you plenty of options when it comes to post-production. Likewise, if you want to shoot video, then it features 4K video recording.
The Leica D-Lux 8 is also well-integrated with digital workflows and can be seamlessly connected to the Leica FOTOS app, allowing you to download, edit, and share images directly to from your smartphone. The app supports DNG files and video downloads and offers remote camera operation, including optical zoom control. Firmware updates for the camera can also be managed within the app which makes things far simpler than downloading and installing updates in a more traditional fashion.
Along with the camera Leica has also introduced a range of accessories to complement the D-Lux 8. These include stylish leather half cases, matching carrying and wrist straps, an equipment bag, and a hip bag. Technical accessories such as an auto lens cap and a new handgrip provide additional comfort and functionality. Users can also personalise their camera with screw-on soft-release buttons available in black, brass, and silver.
