HUAWEI P40 Pro+ price, specs, release date revealed

Huawei has today announced the arrival of the Huawei P40 Pro+. This all-new handset was first announced during the P40 series launch back in March.

The new handset will be available to purchase online and features the latest intelligent camera and video capture.

Anson Zhang, Managing Director of the UK Consumer Business Group, Huawei said: “The HUAWEI P40 Pro+ continues the P Series’ heritage of imaging excellence, thanks to the unique HUAWEI Ultra Vision Sensor, SuperZoom Array and pro-level cinematic features. The handset also brings ultra-fast speed to consumers with the high-performance Kirin 990 5G Chipset, to connect people and the world around them instantly.”

Some of the highlights of the new handset include:

All-Day Super Definition Photography

The handset will feature an Ultra Vision Leica Penta Camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor. This sensor supports pixel binning to achieve a pixel size of 2.44μm, now that’s impressive, and will enable better than ever low light performance.

This sensor is combined with the RYYB colour filter array, further enhancing the clarity of the images the handset can capture in both day and night conditions.

Another feature of the sensor worth a mention is the Full Pixel Octa PD AutoFocus that will help with precise focusing in all lighting situations.

Previously we’ve seen outstanding quality from the Huawei zooms and again on the P40+, the SuperZoom array features two telephoto cameras for 3x and 10x optical zoom with up to 100x digital zoom.

To enable the capture of images using the zoom feature the handset features Triple OIS+AIS. This technology promises to provide some of the best image stabilisation ever seen on a HUAWEI P Series device.

The main rear-mounted cameras may be the part of this handset that excites us here at camerajabber the most but there’s also the front-facing camera.

This is a 32mp camera with autofocus and uses an IR depth camera to produce flawless selfies and natural bokeh effects.

The HUAWEI Golden Snap is another feature available on the HUAWEI P40 Pro+, with AI Best Moment, AI Remove Passerby and AI Remove Reflection.

A Powerfully Compact Video Camera

As well as major enhancements for the stills cameras the HUAWEI P40 Pro+ features a 40MP Ultra-Wide Cine Camera that is able to make full use of the ISO 51200.

This low light sensitivity for video means that you can now capture video sequences in lighting conditions that would challenge professional equipment.

This video ability is realised by the SedecimPixel Fusion Technology, which produces superpixels measuring 4.48μm, enabling bright and clear footage even when shooting in lowlight conditions.

As well as the huge low light potential the handsets Cine Camera also supports HDR capture, an incredible 7680fps Ultra Slow-Motion and real-time Bokeh effects for video.

The telephoto camera is able to capture high-quality video as well as 4K time-lapse.

Video is nothing without great audio and the Directional Audio Zoom feature enables users to zoom in on an audio source and boost the sound.

Pricing and Availability

The HUAWEI P40 Pro+ will go on sale from the 25th June in the UK with an RRP £1,299.

The new handset will be available on the Huawei Store and selected retailers.
