Fujifilm has unveiled the Fujinon XF150-600mmF5.6-8 R LM OIS WR, price tag £1,899, a new telephoto zoom with an equivalent focal length of 229-914mm.

Covering the focal range from telephoto to super-telephoto, the Fujinon XF150-600mm F5.6-8 R LM OIS WR is designed to capture birds and other wildlife from a distance, as well for tracking athletes in large sports stadiums.

Along with its impressive focal range, the Fujinon XF150-600mm F5.6-8 R LM OIS WR also supports teleconverters. With the XF2X TC WR fitted, its focal length extends to 1200mm (1828mm equivalent).

The Fujinon XF150-600mm F5.6-8 R LM OIS WR is comprised of 24 elements in 17 groups, which includes three ED and four Super ED elements. Fujifilm says its optical design provides edge-to-edge sharpness across the entire zoom range and limits the axial chromatic aberrations that you often see at the super-telephoto range.

Image quality is aided by Fujifilm’s HT-EBC coating, which is typically used on broadcast lenses. This coating has been applied to all 24 lens elements.

The Fujinon XF150-600mm F5.6-8 R LM OIS WR also boasts a 5-stop optical image stabilisation mechanism to keep camera shake at bay at the super-telephoto end of the focal range.

Despite its large focal range, the Fujinon XF150-600mm F5.6-8 R LM OIS WR has also been designed to keep it lightweight at just 1605g. Inside the barrel is a magnesium alloy internal frame to support the lens structure but keep the weight down.

What’s more, the barrel itself is in matte silver to keep the lens cool in the heat. Other features include a linear motor for faster, precise AF, a Focus Limiter and Focus Control button and a weather-resistant design.
