DxO Labs, has announced the release of DxO PhotoLab 8, the latest version of its highly regarded RAW image processing and correction software. Known for pushing the boundaries of photo editing, DxO continues to enhance the capabilities of photographers with the introduction of groundbreaking features in PhotoLab 8, including DeepPRIME XD2s technology, Hue Masks, and an enhanced Tone Curve tool.

The standout feature of DxO PhotoLab 8 is the new DeepPRIME XD2s, an advanced noise reduction and detail extraction engine that represents the next generation of DxO’s proprietary RAW processing technology. This tool allows photographers to achieve higher ISO settings with reduced noise, breathe new life into older images, and experience an unprecedented level of detail in their photos, regardless of the camera used. DeepPRIME XD2s builds on over 20 years of DxO’s research and expertise, offering a significant leap in image quality by utilising sophisticated algorithms that enhance both noise reduction and detail retention.

DxO PhotoLab 8 also introduces several other innovative tools designed to give photographers more control over their editing process. A new large live preview magnifier allows users to see the effects of adjustments in real-time, including those made using DeepPRIME XD2s, ClearView, Smart Lighting, and the newly enhanced Tone Curve tool. This feature enables photographers to preview the full quality of RAW denoising and demosaicing, providing up to 1600% zoom to assess the impact of each edit, ensuring a more refined workflow.

The addition of Hue Masks marks another significant enhancement in PhotoLab 8. This tool allows for precise local adjustments by enabling photographers to target specific hues or hue ranges within their images. With eight predefined hues and the ability to sample directly from the image, photographers can create smooth transitions and achieve a high level of accuracy in their edits. Combined with DxO’s renowned U Point™ technology, the Hue Masks provide a powerful tool for creative adjustments without compromising on the natural look of the image.

The Tone Curve tool has also been significantly improved in DxO PhotoLab 8, now featuring a dedicated Luma control channel. This allows photographers to adjust tonal values without affecting colour balance, thus avoiding unwanted colour shifts when changing brightness levels. The updated Tone Curve tool includes on-image control, where users can click directly on an image to adjust specific tones, and a histogram display for guided adjustments. Additionally, DxO has enhanced the usability of this tool by allowing for more precise numerical input and offering the option to save custom presets.

Further enhancements in PhotoLab 8 aim to improve workflow efficiency. The new Compare Mode allows photographers to set a reference image for side-by-side comparisons, and the main viewer’s Correction Rollover feature provides live previews of adjustments, such as Colour Renderings and LUTs, by simply hovering the cursor over the settings. These updates, along with faster browsing and image loading times, make PhotoLab 8 a more efficient tool for photographers looking to streamline their editing process.

DxO PhotoLab 8 is now available for download on the DxO website. The software is priced at £209 / $229 / €229, with an upgrade option available from previous versions for £99 / $109 / €109. It is also offered in a bundle with DxO FilmPack 7 for £249 / $299 / €299. A free 30-day trial is available for those who want to experience the new features before making a purchase.
