DJI, has revealed the latest addition to its action camera range, the Osmo Action 5 Pro. This new action camera has quite a bit to live up to after the superb Osmo Atcion 4 that I reviewed around this time last year. This new model introduces several industry-first features for an action camera that all come together to help boost the image quality to a level typically seen in professional cameras. One of the big features is the boost to 13.5-stops of dynamic range, which means that more shadow and highlight detail will be captured, and this also increases the camera’s low-light capabilities.

Paul Pan, Senior Product Line Manager at DJI, described the companyās mission:
“By combining the image quality of a professional camera with the rugged durability of an action camera, we continue to innovate and set new standards for the industry,ā
āCreators have evolved, becoming more sophisticated in the stories they tell and the moments that they capture. Instead of making incremental improvements, we strive to push the entire action camera category forward and evolve with these creators.ā
Noting that the Osmo Action 5 Pro bridges the gap between professional photography and action sports shooting.
As already mentioned the most notable upgrade in the Osmo Action 5 Pro is its 13.5-stop dynamic range, offering an increased level of detail in both highlights and shadows. The camera features a 1/1.3ā sensor with 2.4 Ī¼m pixel size, which helps capture sharp, high-quality images even in challenging lighting conditions.
Another feature that will appeal to professionals and enthusiasts is the support for 10-bit D-Log M and Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) formats, allowing creators to shoot dynamic, low-light video in 4K at 60fps. For extreme low-light environments, the SuperNight mode utilises AI-powered noise reduction to produce crisp, clean footage.
The action cameras power supply also sees a huge boost offering up to 4-hours of battery life, this is a 50% improvement over its predecessor, the Osmo Action 4. This is made possible by a 1950mAh Extreme Battery Plus and DJIās proprietary low-power-consumption algorithms. In extreme temperatures as low as -20Ā°C, the camera can continue recording for up to 3.6 hours, making it ideal for adventurers in harsh environments. For quick top-ups, the DJI 30W USB-C Charger delivers 2 hours of shooting from just a 15-minute charge.
The Osmo Action 5 Pro also introduces the first built-in subject centring and tracking system in an action camera. Powered by a 4nm chip and advanced machine-learning algorithms, the camera automatically detects and tracks subjects, keeping them perfectly framed without the need for a gimbal.
For underwater photographers, the Osmo Action 5 Pro offers the deepest waterproofing of any action camera, working up to a depth of 20m without a case. The built-in color temperature sensor captures vivid, lifelike colours underwater, while the camera can automatically start and stop recording upon submersion and surfacing. It also includes a pressure gauge that logs depth, duration, and altitude data.
The front and rear OLED high-brightness touchscreens have been expanded for a better viewing experience, offering a 1000 cd/mĀ² peak brightness for easy shooting in direct sunlight. The Osmo Action 5 Pro is also compatible with DJIās OsmoAudioā¢ connectivity ecosystem, allowing it to connect to the DJI Mic 2 for studio-quality sound without needing an external receiver.
Accessories and DJI Care Refresh
A host of new accessories, including a Multifunctional Charging Handle and Cold Shoe Expansion Kit, complement the Osmo Action 5 Proās versatility. Additionally, users can opt for DJI Care Refresh, a protection plan that covers accidental damage, offering up to two replacements in one year.
