DJI has announced the DJI Mic 2, the next generation of the company’s compact wireless Mic system. It may not have attracted the volume of interest that surrounds the drone launches. However, the first generation has still made enough of an impact to challenge the RODE Wireless Go as a choice for vloggers as well as broadcast professionals. The DJI Mic 2 boosts the audio recording capabilities of the original, making it even more attractive, especially with the smoke-grey exterior.
The DJI Mic 2, like many other microphone systems of its type, manages to meet professional audio recording needs with omnidirectional microphones that have been optimised for vocal clarity. The two mic units also feature intelligent noise-cancelling technology that promises to significantly reduce environmental noise and will ensure clear recordings in various conditions.
One of the big features of the DJI Mic 2 is its safety track recording, which captures a secondary audio track at a lower decibel level to prevent loss of audio quality in unexpected loud scenarios, such as when you’re recording someone with a Brian Blessed volume voice.
As we’ve seen with other DJI products, the Mic 2 features a user-friendly design with a sleek aesthetic and a premium metal charging case. As ever, the two transmitter Mics and the Reciever have been designed to enable automatic pairing as well as compatibility with a wide range of devices.
The DJI Mic 2 introduces a touchscreen interface for intuitive control over settings like volume and gain. In the case, along with the Mic system and charging case, are a range of accessories, including a magnetic attachment and clip-on design, allowing for easy placement on clothing and facilitating dual-channel recording for capturing audio from multiple sources. Each transmitter comes with 8GB of internal storage, which is enough to support up to 14 hours of uncompressed audio recording.
When it comes to technical specifications, the DJI Mic 2 offers 32-bit float internal recording, ensuring the capture of a wide range of sounds, from whispers to loud noises, without distortion. The audio transmission range is also impressive; it will cover up to 250 meters and offers a battery life of 6 hours per transmitter, extendable to 18 hours with the charging case.
The DJI Mic 2 is a significant upgrade over the original DJI wireless mic system with its combination of professional-grade audio quality, intelligent features, and user-friendly design.
