DJI has just announced the DJI Goggles N3, a new entry-level accessory for the DJI Neo and Avata 2 that will enable you to get a highly immersive flight experience. Priced at £229 (€269), these goggles are designed for compatibility with DJI’s new Neo and Avata 2 drones, promising to deliver a smooth first-person view (FPV) flying experience as well as being packed with user-friendly features. At the base level, these new goggles are equipped with an ultra-wide 54° field of view (FOV) and a high-resolution 1080p screen, which will give you a clear, crisp view directly from the drones and their ease of use, making them ideal for use by both beginners and more experienced users. It’s worth noting that in the UK, you’ll need a spotter with you when using the goggles due to the drone rules, essentially someone keeping an eye out for airborne dangers.
Another big feature of the new goggles is that they’ll offer full control through DJI’s RC Motion 3 controller; this will essentially enable you to activate a variety of aerial manoeuvres, including 360° flips, 180° drifts, and even one-tap power loops when paired with the Avata 2. This control through the motion controller provides a more natural and intuitive way of flying that will enable new users a way to fly like a pro more quickly, as well as getting a direct live view feed directly from the goggles.
“DJI Goggles N3 offers everyone the chance to sit in the cockpit and experience aerial tricks like flips and drifts from the comfort of their living room,” said Ferdinand Wolf, DJI’s Product Experience Director.
This new set of goggles has been designed to appeal to new FPV pilots, with ease-of-use features like support for prescription eyewear and automatic defogging, which manages condensation even in high-humidity conditions.
The Goggles N3 have been designed for comfort as well as usability. In order to ensure that they’re both comfortable and functional, the goggles are held in place by a lightweight headband with an integrated battery, which together creates a balanced fit for extended flights. At the same time, the one-touch defogging system circulates air internally, helping to maintain a clear view during intensive sessions.
When it comes to the quality of the video transmission, the new goggles will feature DJI’s O4 digital transmission system, which will deliver a crisp live feed with 1080p at 60 frames per second (fps) and an ultra-low latency of approximately 31 milliseconds, ensuring a nearly synchronous flying experience. The range extends to an impressive 13 km, although in the UK your spotter must still have a clear line of sight due to the rules. Elsewhere, the Goggles N3 automatically optimises its frequency between 2.4 GHz and 5.8 GHz bands based on surrounding conditions.
Additional features provide even more flexibility and social functionality. For example, if you connect to the DJI Fly app via USB-C, the goggles enable smartphone viewing for a secondary, real-time feed, allowing others to follow along with the pilot’s experience. The goggles’ battery life supports a flight time of up to 2.7 hours, giving users ample time to explore and experiment in the skies.
