Capix Ltd, has launched the AGO, a ground-breaking semi-automatic home film processor, now available in the UK. Priced at £450, the AGO brings the power of professional film development into the comfort of photographers’ homes, offering both convenience and high-quality results.
The AGO is the first compact, semi-automatic film processor designed for home use. It recreates the traditional darkroom experience with the benefits of modern technology. This launch marks Capix’s entry into the consumer photography market, leveraging its extensive experience in film processing to cater to professional photographers and enthusiasts alike.
The AGO home film processor supports a wide range of film types, including B&W, C-41, E-6, ECN-2, and even RA4 paper, making it highly versatile. It is compatible with various formats, such as 35mm, medium format, and 4×5 format, as well as with the Paterson Super System 4. This compatibility allows photographers to process multiple films simultaneously, optimizing the machine for both small and large tanks.
One of the standout features of the AGO is its intelligent processing system, which simplifies the film development process. The device automatically agitates the film, prompts users when to change chemicals, and holds pre-set programs for different film-developer combinations. This takes much of the guesswork out of home processing, making it accessible to those new to film development while still offering precision for seasoned professionals.
The AGO also introduces a unique time compensation feature, which allows photographers to develop film at varying chemical temperatures. By continuously monitoring the temperature and adjusting processing times accordingly, the AGO ensures consistent results with each use. This feature is particularly beneficial when working with colour chemicals that require precise compensation times. However, for photographers who prefer a hands-on approach, the AGO allows for manual control, enabling users to experiment with different development techniques and create custom programs.
Another innovative aspect of the AGO is its horizontal rotational agitation, which can save up to 60% on chemical usage depending on the tank size. This feature makes the processor not only cost-effective but also environmentally friendly. For high-precision work, the AGO can switch to vertical mode, allowing for specialized film development. However, it’s important to note that the temperature compensation feature is not available in this mode.
The AGO is distributed across the UK and Ireland, with units available from summer 2024. This launch, in collaboration with Vintage Visual, follows a successful crowdfunding campaign, and it is expected to reignite interest in home film processing among a new generation of photographers.
