Canon has announced new firmware for the EOS R5, EOS R6 and EOS-1D X Mark III which adds support for Canon Log 3.

Already available in the R5, the new firmware adds Canon Log 3 to the R6 and EOS-1D X Mark III. C-Log 3 expands the camera’s dynamic range to provide more colour space options, making it easier for users to colour match footage captured with Canon Cinema EOS series cameras.

The new Canon firmware also provides support for CFexpress VPG400 cards in the EOS R5 and EOS-1D Mark III. These new industry standard memory cards provide a minimum write speed of 400MB/s.

The firmware also makes the EOS R5 compatible with Canon’s CN-E18-80mm T4.4 L IS KAS S and CN-E70-200mm T4.4 L IS KAS S Cine servo zoom lenses. The new firmware allows R5 users to control exposure, focus and zoom from the body, as well as start recording using the record button on Canon Cine servo zoom lenses.

What’s more, the EOS R5 will also be compatible with Canon’s EOS utility and Camera Connect software. Other new features in the R5 firmware are the option to record external full frame 8K ProRes RAW and 5K cropped ProRes RAW video when connected to the Atomos Ninja V+ recorder, and 5K cropped ProRes RAW recording with the Atomos Ninja V recorders.

The new Canon EOS R6 firmware and EOS-1D X Mark III firmware updates are available to download now. The EOS R5 firmware update will be available later this summer.
