Canon has announced the latest addition to its EOS M range of mirrorless cameras, introducing the Canon EOS M50, price tag £539.99/€629.99, with a March 2018 release date.
The Canon EOS M50 is the company’s first mirrorless camera to feature 4K video recording, a Vari-Angle touchscreen LCD and Canon’s new DIGIC 8 processor, which is a first for any Canon camera.
Canon says the new DIGIC 8 processing engine enables the M50’s 4K video and 4K timelapse recording features, as well as the new Canon camera’s 10fps continuous shooting and maximum native ISO of 25,600.
Canon says autofocus and other features such as Auto Lighting Optimiser, Digital Lens Optimiser and Highlight Tone Priority are improved thanks to the DIGIC 8 processor.
Inside the Canon EOS M50 is an APS-C-format 24.1-megapixel 22.3 x 14.9mm CMOS sensor. The M50 also employs Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF system, with phase detection pixels built onto the imaging sensor. The EOS M50’s AF system offer 143/99 points depending on your lens.
Canon says the EOS M50 is the first camera to feature a new CR3 14-bit raw file format, as well as a new C-RAW option that creates full resolution raw files while saving approximately 30-40% on the file size of standard raw files.
This should then increase the number of images that can be stored on a memory card while still giving flexibility of raw images.
