Canon has announced the Speedlite EL-1, a new flashgun aimed at professionals that offers a range of power options from full power down to 1/8192.

The new Canon Speedlite promises recycle times of 0.1 to 0.9secs, and a new LP-EL battery pack can deliver up to 170 continuous full power flashes in a burst without overheating. Overall, Canon says the EL-1 can provide up to 335 flashes at full power.

In Continuous Shooting Priority (CSP) Mode the EL-1 automatically lowers the flash output by one stop, and the ISO speed is automatically raised by one stop instead to further conserve battery power.

The Speedlite EL-1 has a Guide Number of GN60. It is also possible to connect the Speedlite EL-1 to up to 15 other flashguns. The radio wireless transmission also now includes second-curtain synchro for creating trailing light effects.

A Flash Exposure memory feature enables the Speedlite EL-1 to remember the last E-TTL flash shot settings, allowing users to switch to Manual Flash mode, making minor adjustments around these settings.

Other features include a weather-proof design, joystick and a backlit LCD.

The Canon Speedlite EL-1 price tag is $1,099 and is available for pre-order from retailers such as B&H Photo Video.
