broncolor has been awarded the Red Dot Award for the outstanding design for the user interface on its flagship lighting products, Satos and Pulso L. This recognition highlights broncolor’s focus on innovation and design while keeping a focus on what photographers need with user-friendly technology and use.

The award-winning user interface of the Satos and Pulso L is the result of a collaboration between broncolor and HMI Project GmbH. This German studio specializes in intuitive software interfaces for industrial applications. The partnership aimed to develop an intuitive user interface that reflected the values of the broncolor brand while meeting the demands of photographers.

“We ensured that all functions could be adjusted via a multitouch display, physical buttons, or through an app/API interface. A major challenge was to seamlessly integrate hard key operation with touch operation, making it feel completely natural. User surveys and subsequent usability tests revealed that while touch operation was well-accepted, the haptic rotary wheel was preferred for fine adjustments of light intensity.”

Axel Schmidt, Senior Product Manager at broncolor in Switzerland.

The Santos and Pulso L interface allows users to control their lighting setup through multiple methods. The combination of a multitouch display, physical buttons, and an app/API interface makes the system versatile and accessible. The haptic rotary wheel, favoured for its precision in adjusting light intensity, exemplifies the thoughtful design that caters to professional photographers’ needs.

In celebration of this award, broncolor is launching a special trade-in promotion throughout August and September.
