EIZO has just announced the launch of its student photography and film awards and with the competition open for still and video, it looks set to be the biggest competition yet.

The competition is open to students from a broad spectrum of disciplines, be that commercial, editorial or film direction. This competition is designed to showcase the talents of the student behind the lens.

The top prize to the winner is an EIZO ColorEdge monitor and an exclusive placement with one of this year’s judges.

Now in its 4th year, the three judges for this year’s awards are all UK-based professionals in photography, film or journalism and are;

  • Tim Flach, a London based photographer, best known for his highly conceptual images of animals. His most recent work, Endangered, is a powerful document of species on the edge of extinction.
  • Helen Jennings, a London based editor, curator, consultant and co-founder of Nataal, the award-winning media brand celebrating contemporary African visual arts, fashion and culture. Its digital platform, magazine and photography exhibitions have created a global platform for a new generation of artists. She has contributed to titles including Vogue, Guardian, Harpers Bazaar, Dazed and Lula, penned essays for several coffee table books and worked with brands such as Stella McCartney and Topshop.
  • Alistair Taylor-Young, a British photographer and film director. He has contributed to Conde Nast Traveller for the past 20 years travelling to the most extraordinary places in the world. His client list includes Dior, Fendi and Bloomingdales.

On being a judge, Tim Flach commented: “It is an honour to be a judge for the 2020 EIZO Student Awards. I am looking forward to seeing the submissions from a new generation of photographers.”

There will be three total winners, one chosen by each of the judges. One of the former winners of the 2018-19 award is Jimmy Lee (26), a previous student from University for the Creative Arts in Farnham, who commented: “I entered the award as EIZO is a well-established brand in the creative industry. It was a great opportunity to connect with professionals in the creative network. My advice would be to be yourself and submit the work that you really enjoy!”

Hayley Osborne, Head of Marketing and Communications for EIZO Limited, added: “At EIZO we recognise the significance of students’ creative and cultural development within higher education in the arts as a fundamental platform to help them develop their ideas, skills and techniques as photographers, film and image-makers.

“As a company, we are committed to supporting young photographers; our award aims to give students the opportunity to challenge themselves and allow them to show the world what they see through the lens, whilst getting studio experience with some of the world’s leaders in the creative industries.”

Both universities and students can now download a copy of the EIZO Awards brief and find details on how to enter including terms and conditions at www.eizocolour.com/eizo-award/. Entry submissions are now open and close on 14th May 2020. Judging will commence in May next year, before the winners are announced in June 2020.
