Canon has announced Camera Control Centre, a free software application that brings setup, control and management of its PTZ cameras into a single platform. It’s aimed at broadcasters, education providers, corporate users and the public sector, and it will be available to download from January 2027.

Until now, anyone running a Canon PTZ system has had to move between several separate applications for tasks such as camera setup, PTZ control, colour matching and system management, including the existing Remote Camera Control Application. Camera Control Centre replaces those tools with one workflow that runs from first installation through to live operation.

The software covers camera discovery and initial setup, remote PTZ control, colour matching across both Canon and non-Canon cameras, firmware updates and device management, and centralised monitoring. It can manage up to 200 compatible devices, with batch tools for configuration and updates across multiple cameras.

New tools for multi-camera productions

Canon has added three new features that don’t cost anything extra. Quick Image Adjustment lets you compare up to four camera feeds side by side and adjust white balance, shutter speed and iris from a single screen, which should make matching cameras before a live stream much quicker.

Angle of View Simulation lets you plan camera positions before installation by simulating framing and field of view based on the camera model and distance to the subject. That’s a genuinely useful planning tool for anyone fitting out a lecture theatre, studio or church, where moving a ceiling-mounted camera after the event is a real job.

Camera Groups lets you save and recall settings across multiple cameras, so a set-up that worked for one production can be brought back for the next.

Having worked with multi-camera set-ups in education, we can see the appeal of a single application. Juggling different tools for different jobs is one of the main things that makes PTZ systems feel complicated for non-specialist staff, and colour matching non-Canon cameras is a welcome bonus for mixed systems.
