Pre-orders for the iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable iPhone, opened on Friday 16 October. The UK is in the first wave of countries, and the phone goes on sale on Friday 23 October.

Apple announced the iPhone Duo in September. It folds out from a 5.4-inch outer display to a 7.6-inch inner screen, which Apple says is 50% larger than the iPhone 18 Pro Max display. Both screens are Super Retina XDR panels with ProMotion, Always On, nano-texture glass and up to 3,000 nits peak outdoor brightness. Apple also says that, opened up, it’s the thinnest iPhone it has ever made.

For us, the interesting part is the camera. Apple hasn’t cut it back to fit the fold. The 48MP Fusion Main camera has a large sensor, a fast aperture and sensor-shift OIS. It shoots 24MP images by default and up to 48MP, with an integrated optical-quality 2x telephoto crop. Apple also says it has zero shutter lag. Alongside it is a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide, the same unit as on the iPhone 18 Pro models, which also handles macro.

Video goes up to 4K at 120fps in Dolby Vision on the main camera, with Cinematic mode up to 60fps. At the front there’s a Center Stage camera that can shoot in any orientation, plus a FaceTime camera hidden under the inner display.

What’s missing is a dedicated telephoto. Anyone used to the long lens on the Pro models will notice that, but the big inner screen should make a very good viewfinder and editing surface.

Inside is the A20 Pro chip, built on a 2nm process, with a dual-battery design that Apple says gives all-day battery life.

If you didn’t pre-order straight away, you may have a long wait. GSMArena reports that delivery estimates slipped to late January within hours of pre-orders opening.
