Chinese PC maker Thunderobot has launched the Station series AI workstation, the latest compact PC built around AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ 395. It opened for pre-order in China with full sales starting on 9 October. It isn’t available in the UK yet, but it’s one we’ll be watching.
The Station uses a 2-litre aluminium chassis with 128GB of LPDDR5X-8000 memory. As with other Strix Halo machines, that unified memory is shared between CPU and GPU, and Notebookcheck, which first reported the launch, says up to 96GB can be assigned as VRAM. That’s enough to run large AI models locally. Cooling uses four heat pipes and three fans, and Thunderobot says the processor can run at up to 132W.
The base model comes with a 1TB PCIe Gen4 SSD, with two extra M.2 slots for more storage. That will appeal to photographers with big RAW libraries. Connectivity includes dual 10GbE Ethernet, 40Gbps USB4 ports, HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.4. It also has a built-in SD card reader, which many rivals don’t have, and Notebookcheck says it’s UHS-II.
Thunderobot has also confirmed a version with AMD’s Ryzen AI Max+ Pro 495 is coming.
The Station enters a crowded field. Mini PCs like this have been our most-read stories this year, and it goes up against machines such as the Minisforum MS-S1 Max. The Minisforum has a PCIe slot and USB4 V2 that the Thunderobot lacks, but the Thunderobot’s card reader and smaller 2-litre chassis make a good case for photographers who want a neat desktop editing machine. Whether it reaches the UK, and at what price, will decide how it compares.
