DJI has launched the DJI Mic Mini 2S, a compact wireless microphone system that adds one of the features creators have been waiting for: internal recording. Each transmitter can record 32-bit float audio, giving you a local backup when a wireless connection drops or sound levels change unexpectedly.
This is the first model in DJI’s miniature Mic series to offer internal recording. It follows the recently released Mic Mini 2, retaining the small, wearable design while moving closer to the capabilities of DJI’s more advanced microphone systems. The supplied materials describe the transmitter as having 16GB of internal storage, while DJI’s press release gives the available capacity as approximately 14.5GB. That provides up to 28 hours of recording in the default 24-bit mode or around 22 hours when 32-bit float recording is selected. The 32-bit option is disabled by default and needs to be activated through the DJI Mimo app.
DJI has also designed the charging case to make those recordings easier to retrieve. The case can connect directly for file transfer at up to 34MB/s, with DJI claiming that a 30-minute 24-bit recording can be copied in roughly eight seconds. That could make a real difference when you are working through several interviews or trying to back up files between locations.
For me, the other major development is the move to two-level AI noise cancelling. Basic mode is intended to reduce indoor distractions such as fans, air conditioning and room reverberation, while Strong mode targets more difficult outdoor background noise. There are also Regular, Bright and Rich voice presets, alongside Clipping Control and Loudness Balance adaptive-gain modes. The former lowers gain when levels suddenly rise, while the latter adjusts quieter and louder speech to produce a more consistent output.
The receiver can connect to as many as four transmitters simultaneously, opening the system up to podcasts, panel discussions and multi-person interviews. Mono, stereo, safety-track and four-channel output options are supported, although additional transmitters and compatible equipment may need to be purchased separately. Cross-generation support also allows the receiver to work with DJI Mic Mini and Mic Mini 2 transmitters, giving existing users a way to expand a kit without replacing every component.
That four-person capability is a notable step beyond the two-transmitter setups usually associated with compact creator microphones. Despite the additional recording hardware, each Mic Mini 2S transmitter weighs approximately 12g. It can be attached magnetically or with a detachable, rotating clip, allowing you to alter the microphone’s angle when mounting it upright, inverted or to the side. Eight coloured magnetic covers are available, along with a separate Time Series collection created with illustrator Victo Ngai.
DJI quotes up to 11 hours of operation for a transmitter and 10 hours for the receiver. With the charging case, the complete two-transmitter system can provide up to 40 hours of use. A five-minute quick charge is rated to provide approximately one hour of operation, while the maximum transmission distance is 400m in an open, interference-free environment.
The transmitters can also connect directly to compatible DJI Osmo cameras through OsmoAudio, removing the receiver from smaller filming configurations.
