Compact wireless microphone adds colourful covers and smarter creator audio

DJI has launched the DJI Mic Mini 2, a compact wireless microphone system aimed at vloggers, mobile creators and camera users who want improved audio without adding much bulk to their kit. The new model builds on the company’s miniature microphone line with 48kHz, 24-bit audio, interchangeable magnetic front covers and a more complete storage system for transmitters, receivers and accessories.

The DJI Mic Mini 2 Transmitter weighs around 11g on its own, making it small enough to wear discreetly on clothing using a magnetic clip or magnet. DJI says the detachable clip can be rotated to help aim the microphone towards the sound source, whether it is worn upright, side-mounted or inverted.

A key update is the introduction of magnetic front covers. Obsidian Black and Glaze White covers are included as standard, while additional multi-colour magnetic covers are designed to let creators match the microphone to different outfits or shooting styles. DJI is also expanding this idea with the separately sold DJI Mic Mini 2 Time Series Magnetic Front Cover, created with award-winning illustrator Victo Ngai. The four designs, Dawn, Surge, Blaze and Glimmer, are described as representing different stages of life and creativity.

For recording control, the Mic Mini 2 includes three voice tone presets: Regular, Rich and Bright. These are intended to help users tune speech for different voices and environments. The microphone also adds two-level active noise cancelling, with Basic and Strong settings for quieter indoor spaces or noisier outdoor locations. Automatic limiting is included to reduce the risk of clipped audio when sound levels suddenly rise, which should be useful for one-take vlogging, interviews and street recording.

Compatibility is another major part of the announcement. The DJI Mic Mini Receiver supports mixed use with DJI Mic Mini and Mic Mini 2 transmitters, while the DJI Mic Series Mobile Receiver can work with Mic 2, Mic 3, Mic Mini and Mic Mini 2 transmitters. DJI OsmoAudio Direct Connection also allows the Mic Mini 2 Transmitter to connect directly to compatible DJI devices, including Osmo Pocket 3, Osmo 360, Osmo Nano, Osmo Action 6 and Osmo Action 5 Pro, without a separate receiver.
