Insta360 has announced the X6, its new flagship 360 camera, and there’s quite a lot more going on here than a simple resolution bump. The headline is native 8K 360 video at 50fps, but what catches my attention most is the combination of larger sensors, substantially more processing power and a stronger push towards getting usable footage out of the camera with less editing. At the heart of the Insta360 X6 are two custom Sony 1/1.1-inch square sensors. Insta360 says these provide full 1-inch-equivalent 360 imaging, with 33% more sensor area than the X5 and around four times the light intake per frame. That should be particularly significant in low light, where small-sensor 360 cameras have traditionally had to work hard to control noise and retain detail.
