New 8K 360 drone transforms immersive aerial content creation

DJI has unveiled the Avata 360, a new flagship FPV drone designed to merge immersive flight with high-resolution 360-degree capture. Announced on 26 March 2026, the drone introduces 8K/60fps HDR 360 video recording powered by 1-inch-equivalent sensors, marking a significant leap in aerial imaging capabilities for both enthusiasts and professional creators.

At the core of the Avata 360 is its dual-lens system, allowing users to switch between full 360-degree capture and a more traditional single-lens mode. In its primary configuration, the drone captures expansive 360-degree footage at up to 8K resolution and 120MP stills, offering extensive flexibility in post-production. Footage can be reframed after shooting, enabling creators to extract multiple compositions from a single flight. For more conventional shooting, the single-lens mode supports 4K/60fps recording in a familiar FPV style.

The Avata 360 is equipped with DJI’s O4+ video transmission system, delivering a live feed at 1080p/60fps with a maximum range of up to 20km. This ensures a stable and responsive connection, particularly when paired with DJI goggles and motion controllers for a fully immersive FPV experience. Traditional remote controllers such as the RC 2 and RC-N series are also supported for more precise camera control.

Safety and usability are central to the drone’s design. Omnidirectional obstacle sensing and integrated propeller guards provide additional confidence during flight, while a flight time of up to 23 minutes supports extended shooting sessions. The drone also features a replaceable front lens element, allowing users to carry out repairs without returning the unit to DJI.

DJI has integrated a suite of intelligent shooting and editing tools into the Avata 360 ecosystem. Features such as Spotlight Free, ActiveTrack 360°, and Intelligent Tracking enable automated subject tracking across complex environments. A new GyroFrame tool simplifies reframing directly within the DJI Fly app, while the Virtual Gimbal function allows for fluid camera movements, including horizon rotation and perspective shifts, even after capture.

The drone includes 42GB of internal storage, capable of holding approximately 30 minutes of 8K 360 video. With Wi-Fi 6 support, files can be transferred quickly to a mobile device at speeds of up to 100 MB/s, streamlining the editing workflow.

By combining FPV flight dynamics with advanced 360 imaging, the Avata 360 positions itself as a versatile tool for creators seeking both cinematic flexibility and immersive storytelling.
