Yashica is back on Kickstarter, promising three new film cameras – the MF-1, MF-2 and a revamped Yashica-44 TLR.

With the taste for colourful language it displayed when it launched the DigiFilm Camera Y35 last year, Yashica has unveiled what it’s calling its ‘Yashica Absolute’ project for 2019, which will roll out in three ‘episodes’ – Premiere, Novella and Prestige.

Yashica’s ‘Premiere’ episode is the MF-1 film camera. Billed as a simple ‘Snapshot Art Camera’ aimed at novice photographers, the Yashica MF-1 is a pocket compact, point-and-shoot camera with a 1/120sec shutter speed and a 31mm f/11 lens.

Yashica is also bringing out a new 35mm film, Yashica 400, for use with the MF-1, as well as a Golden 80s film that promises heavy saturation and strong grain.

Yashica’s ‘Novella’ launch will be the MF-2, which is slated for an August release. No details about the Yashica MF-2 are available, but it looks to boast more manual controls in a rangefinder-style design.

Yashica’s ‘Prestige’ launch is what it is calling its ‘masterpiece’, which will be a revamped version of the Yashica-44 TLR. The new Yashica 44 will be compatible with 35mm film, with a release date set for December 2019.
