Western Digital has launched a new 400GB SanDisk Extreme UHS-I microSD card aimed at transferring large data volumes, which WD says is 50% faster than its existing UHS-I microSD card.

The new 400GB SanDisk Extreme UHS-I microSD card offers read speeds up to 160MB/s and write speeds of up to 90MB/s.

At these speeds WD says the new microSD card is more than 50 percent faster than current SanDisk Extreme UHS-I microSD cards.

It also features the A2 specification to load apps instantly.

Pricing is not yet available at the time of writing.

WD also revealed what it says is the future of flash memory cards, demonstrating its new PCIe-enabled SD card.

The card is designed to read data files faster than today’s platform, and the technology can be used to boost the performance of SD cards to the speeds now required for transferring high-resolution content such as super-slow-motion video, RAW continuous burst mode and 8K video capture and playback.
