Venus Optics has announced the Laowa 12mm t/2.9 Zero-D Cine lens, price tag $1,499, which is designed for both professional cinema and mirrorless cameras.

Available in EF, E and PL lens mounts, the Laowa 12mm t/2.9 Zero-D Cine lens is a re-engineered version of Venus Optics 12mm f/2.8 Zero-D stills lens.

The new Laowa lens is comprised of 16 elements in 10 groups, two of which are aspherical elements and it offers a 47mm image circle, which supports both full-frame sensors and the larger Vista Vision sensors on cinema cameras such as the RED Monster and Arri Alexa LF.

Venus Optics says that distortion levels from the lens are ‘close to zero’, and the lens can focus anywhere from 7 inches away from the sensor. Other features include an angle of view of 122 degrees.

The Laowa 12mm t/2.9 weighs just 675g and is 87mm long. The Laowa 12mm t/2.9 is available for purchase now from Venus Optics’ website.
