Vazen announces 50mm T2.1 1.8X Anamorphic Lens in PL/EF mount

Cine lens manufacturer Vazen has announced a new 50mm T2.1 1.8x Anamorphic lens with a PL/EF mount.

This new lens has been developed to cover large format cinema cameras such as the Red Monstro, Alexa LF, Kinefinity Mavo LF and Z-CAM E2-F8. Still, it will be equally suited to full-frame DSLR and mirrorless cameras, although some will require the correct mount adapter.

The 50mm announced today will be closely followed by a 135mm to complete a three-lens line-up consisting of the 50mm, 85mm and 135mm.

The complete range features a similar compact and lightweight design, with this 50mm weighing in at just 1.55kg and measures 13.3cm in length. This makes it one of the worlds smallest 1.8x anamorphic lenses for full-frame cameras.

Being compact and lightweight means that the Vazen 50mm T2.1 is the perfect option for both gimbals and rigs.

As with the 85mm, the 50mm has the same focus and aperture position ensuring hot-swapping on set is quick and easy with no realignment needed.

Matching the 85mm, the 50mm also features a consistent 86mm front thread for ND filters and diopters installation. The front diameter is a standard and 95mm for matte box mounting.

Vazen has utilized aluminium as the main material for the lens casing, giving the lens a solid quality feel.

The aperture and focus ring are fully independent and incorporate standard 0.8 mod cone gears. The lens will be available in both PL and EF mount option with both mount and shims in the Vazen hard case.

All Vazen 1.8x anamorphic lenses feature a front anamorphic design to deliver smooth oval bokeh, signature blue but not oversaturated, horizontal flare and the widescreen cinematic look.

The 50mm lens also features an ultra-wide 65º horizontal field of view, similar to a 28mm spherical lens and a close focusing distance from the sensor of 3.6-inches.

Vazen chose to adopt a 1.8x squeeze design to balance the anamorphic characters and the resolution of the image.

The 1.8x squeeze can produce a cinematic widescreen 2.39:1 aspect when paired up with 4:3 sensors. When paired up with 16:9 sensors, much less data (than 2X anamorphic lens) is needed to be cropped away to create the desired 2.39:1 ratio.
