Yashica has revealed what it says are the ‘final designs’ of its digiFilm Camera Y35 camera body and lens.

Also called the Yashica Electro 35, the camera is still somewhat of a mystery. Our understanding is that the Y35 loads ‘digiFilm’ like a traditional film camera. You press a shutter button to shoot a frame, and then advance it by pulling a lever like you used to do on your film camera.

Yashica then is releasing a range of different digiFilm, each of which contains a filter to create different effects. For instance, its ISO 1600 High Speed digiFilm is designed for fast-moving subjects and high contrast scenes. ISO 200 Ultra Fine is for images where you want ultimate sharpness and strong colour balance.

The Yashica Y35 digiFilm camera then records 14-megapixel images via its 1/3.2in CMOS sensor and offers a fixed focal length of 35mm.

We’ve backed the campaign on Kickstarter because we’re curious as to how this all works in practice. In the meantime, have a look at the body designs, and click here to see the camera’s full specs.
