Tamron has announced the second generation, or ‘G2’, of its SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD telephoto lens, which boasts upgrades to AF speed and accuracy and Vibration Compensation.

Tamron says the G2 version of its popular telephoto lens has been enhanced to cope with today’s high-resolution DSLRs, such as the Nikon D5 or newly announced Canon EOS 5D Mark IV.

A slew of other new features have been added, too, such as a FLEX ZOOM LOCK mechanism to lock the zoom at any position, Flourine Coating for moisture resistance and optional tele converters.

Three LD (Low Dispersion) lens elements eliminate axial and transverse chromatic aberrations, Tamron says. The new design also features upgraded optical construction of 21 elements in 13 groups and employs recent improvements in manufacturing technology.

One of these is Tamron’s new eBAND (Extended Bandwidth & Angular-Dependency) Coating, which is a nano-structured layer deployed on the lens element surface.

Tamron says its eBAND Coating offers higher light transmission and “significant improvement” in anti-reflection characteristics, especially against angulated incident rays, to make flare and ghosting “imperceptible” in images.

Tamron has also reduced the minimum object distance to 2.2m (compared to 2.7m in the previous version).

The Tamron SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 is set for release in Japan on 15 September 2016, with a European and worldwide release date to follow soon after.
