Tamron has launched an update to its popular wide-angle zoom, announcing the Tamron SP 15-30mm F/2.8 Di VC USD G2 – price to be confirmed – for Canon and Nikon DSLRs.

The Tamron SP 15-30mm F/2.8 Di VC USD G2 now incorporates an XGM (eXpanded Glass Molded Aspherical) lens element, as well as multiple Low Dispersion lens elements to help minimise distortion and chromatic aberrations.

Tamron has also employed a new AX (anti-reflection eXpand) Coating to help reduce ghosting and flare.

What’s more, Tamron has revamped the Fluorine coating on the front element to better protect the lens from moisture, dust and dirt.

The Tamron SP 15-30mm F/2.8 Di VC USD G2 also retains its Moisture Resistant Construction.

Other features include a Dual Micro Processing Unit for ‘vastly improved AF speed and precision,’ Tamron says, along with a separate processor. This enables the Tamron SP 15-30mm F/2.8 Di VC USD G2 lens’s Vibration Compensation system to provide 4.5 stops of stabilisation.

The Tamron SP 15-30mm F/2.8 Di VC USD G2 will be released for Nikon cameras on 21 September, while the Canon mount version will follow on 12 October.
