In 2020 Tamron announced the Tamron 70-300mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD. Almost two years later, the Tamron 70-300mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD (Model A047) has arrived; it’s essentially the same lens, just with a different mount for the Nikon Z cameras.
Aside from the mount, the lens closely reflects the models of the Tamron 70-300mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD that have been available for other camera systems for a couple of years.
What’s good about this lens is the versatility that a 70-300mm brings photographers. This focal length can be a great all-rounder and are especially good when setting out on a day’s trek as near or far; the 70-300mm focal range covers most ground.
When it comes to features, the new lens reflects the features of the Tamron 70-300mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD, released in 2020. Features include moisture-resistant construction, reinforcing that this is an ideal zoom lens for outdoor use. Then to help enhance the lens’s performance in sunny conditions, the lens features Tamron’s BBAR (Broad-Band Anti-Reflection) coating.
One of the interesting features, or more additions to the lens, is Tamron’s investment in the TAMRON Lens Utility. This feature lets you connect your lens to a computer for firmware updates and many other functions. We’ll have to get a lens in to cover this feature in more depth, but from what we can see from the videos from Luke Stackpoole this is an exciting feature to explore.
The Tamron 70-300mm F/4.5-6.3 Di III RXD is designed as a compact telephoto zoom created from the ground up as a companion for mirrorless camera systems.
The variable aperture range gives you decent scope for creativity with f/4.5 on offer at the widest focal length of 70mm, and this is closes down to f/6.3 at the 300mm telephoto end.
Despite the large focal range, the lens is one of the smallest and lightest on the market and measures 150.3mm in length and weighs in at 580g. This makes it an incredibly lightweight and makes it a versatile lens that is easily transported.
